ReWash Community Resource

Now Available.

Dunedin City has a goal to be zero waste by 2040, but how do we get there? and what does that even look like? Well, one easy solution is to remove Single Use disposable products and add reusable ones instead. Such as crockery and cutlery we already have in our amazing op shops. We are launching a community resource the only way we know how. Free and for you the community.

How does it work:

We provide you with a zero waste service ware kit for your community event FREE of charge. We have a stash of crockery, cutlery and dirty dishes bins.

Items you can borrow include:

  • Dinner Plates

  • Bread + Butter Plates

  • Bowls

  • Cups

  • Cutlery - Knives, Forks, Spoons

  • dish racks, dirty dishes bin.

Your community event borrows them for FREE*.

You pick them up, wash and return them clean.

To book your service ware email info@resawesome.nz.

We also have a steriliser available for hire for your event, costs included. Corporates or GOVT will incur fees for hiring.

Pick up is in Waitati, Dunedin.

We have up to 700 of each item, not all items are at that number level.

Broken items - under 10 items we probably won’t worry too much, over 10 items are $1 per item or you replace them from op-shops yourself.

*You pick it up and return it clean for FREE, other services will incur a charge.

This is a result of our attempt to set up a ReWash Trailer for Dunedin City but in doing so realising the actual Human cost and financial needs this system requires, we have discovered it only works with volunteers running the service, and Res.Awesome does not believe this hard mahi should be done by volunteers, that their value and time require reciprocity. We also discovered that this model would work best under a charitable trust or eco-hub model, not a business or social enterprise such as ours.

We raised $29,000 for this project, but we have been unable to fully realise it because we now know we need another $30,000 to fully fund the trailer that will house the entire operation.

Huge thanks to the Dunedin City Council Waste Minimisation Commercial grant for $24,000 and The Packaging Forum for $5,000 towards the ReWash Trailer. We did, however, purchase the steriliser with The Packaging Forum funding and this is currently being set up on-site so that community members can utilise it for cleaning if they do not have access to anywhere else.

We are so grateful to all those who supported our donation drive via Give A Little and we even had a giveaway for all those who did donate.

We are in the process of returning monies to the DCC for this project, we are so disappointed not to have achieved this, but circumstances over the past few years really hindered the ability to make this project work.

If you have any whakairo around this you would like to share, please email info@resawesome.nz.
