The team at Res.Awesome is excited to announce our upcoming event, The Waste Warrior Workshop which will be held on February 16th. Due to the latest restrictions, this event will be hosted online. While it would be great to meet new faces and have the opportunity to facilitate discussions in person, we are confident our event will be just as beneficial via Zoom. Most of us have grown used to this means of networking and the awesome thing is, we can do a hell of a lot of learning from the comfort of our own homes.

Tackling the growing climate crisis goes hand in hand with tackling our waste stream. We know there will be many households with a vested interest in learning from our Kaiwhakahaara Fi, who has so much knowledge to share with you all.

This workshop is specifically designed to encourage behaviour change - which is the key component in reducing Aotearoa’s waste flow. Knowing what can be recycled and how is the first step in ensuring we are doing so responsibly. In this workshop we cover a wide variety of topics. We will learn about where our products come from and the materials used to make them. We will cover where our waste goes and explore the whole system; from the extraction of resources, to disposal.

Traditionally this linear process allows society to embrace the ‘throwaway culture’ which has seen millions of tonnes of valuable resources end up in our landfills worldwide. The team at Res.Awesome are passionate about moving away from this process and embracing a closed loop zero waste system; which will focus on getting the most out of earth’s resources and minimising damage to our local communities and Papatūānuku.

We know our recycling system can be confusing; What goes in which bin? What materials should be avoided? How do we stop the contamination of recyclable products? So let's get together and bust some sustainability myths!

Throughout this workshop, we will share tips on how to keep your recycling bins clean and uncontaminated for the people with the hard task of sorting through it. Bring along (or have in mind) one item that you think can go in your yellow bin. Do you need to squash that bottle? Should you be taking off the lids?

Join our Kaiwhakahaara Fi who will examine our recycling systems and help you demystify these questions. While giving you an overview of the current waste streams, we will work through an activity of identifying items together.

This workshop is relevant for anyone living in Aotearoa hoping to minimise their waste .There will be about an hour of workshop time and half an hour for discussion and reflection together. We’ve kept it affordable so anyone can join, gather your flat together and join us for a Wednesday evening talk about waste minimisation. Bring your burning questions and let’s create a zero-waste world together.

Prior to the workshop please download and read our FREE Waste Warrior Training.
