Living Wage Accreditation is important to our business because…

The Living Wage rate is voluntary and is paid by employers who want to make sure their workers get enough money to live with dignity.

Res.Awesome is proud to share the news that we are a living wage accredited business! The living wage concept is simply a common sense approach to looking out for our people. We believe that everyone should have access to adequate resources to keep their whānau safe and happy. Food, transportation, housing, childcare, clothing and healthcare are the basic things our wages should easily cover. Sadly a large chunk of the New Zealand population has been trying their best to survive on an inadequate rate of pay. The New Zealand Living Wage hourly rate is currently $22.75 and may change depending on how the cost of living fluctuates.

He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.”

”What is the most important thing in the world?
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
— Māori whakataukī

Res.Awesome’s Kaiwhakahaere believes that everyone has a right to be heard and cared for.

Businesses are made up of people who put their creativity and skills toward a greater goal and that holds immeasurable value. Res.Awesome and every business in the community has the power as a social enterprise to create good in our community. For Fi, this starts by showing the people she works alongside that they are a very important part of the business. Achieving goals shoulder to shoulder as a community is Res.Awesome’s mission and that starts with valuing our incredible team.

As part of The Living wage movement, we call upon the government, employers and society as a whole to strive for a living wage for all households as a necessary and important step in the fight against poverty in Aotearoa. We hope by speaking about this issue on our blog space we can destigmatize the awkwardness associated with this important topic.

The process to accreditation is easy and the team are there to help you at every step of they way. We love that one of the questions is about employee access to union membership, we know that business needs to be done differently these days. This is a step in the right direction and one journey we are proud to be walking.
