The zero waste community is growing here in the south and we hope you will join us at the exciting ‘Closing the Loop’ Zero Waste Networking event. This is a space for all to learn & explore aspects of zero waste & the circular economy. For mission minded people this will be a great opportunity to learn more about practical steps we can all take to reach our Zero Waste goals. There will also be drinks and nibbles to enrich this community networking event.

We will be hearing from three exciting guest speakers who can share their unique knowledge and skillset with us. We have our very own Fiona Clements from Res.Awesome who will use this platform to discuss the future of Dunedin’s Zero Waste infrastructure + the ReWash Truck project. Finn Boyle, the Co-ordinator of Pōpopo will be sharing his knowledge around green waste and the tricks learned from working on Otago Polytechnic’s campus compost facility. Ray O’Brien who is the Head of Sustainability at Otago University will be joining us, along with Jo Mohan who is the cofounder of an in innovative and exciting Zero Waste Milk company called Spout. This panel will provide practical advice and share their experience of being part of a thriving circular economy in Dunedin.

This event is an opportunity for networking, learning and sharing knowledge. We are providing the space to build and strengthen connections between all parts of our supply and recovery chains, including; the public, local practitioners, producers, designer, retailers, resource recoverers, recyclers, councils and more. In order to be successful in creating a circular economy we all need to be on board to co-create together.

The circular economy is an alternative to throw-away thinking and our ‘make-use-dispose’ economic model. In a circular economy waste has been designed out of the system, no excess is produced and all resources are recovered. A circular economy is restorative and regenerative by design and recognises the intrinsic value of all living things and the ecosystems that sustain life. It creates strong, resilient and equitable communities where people have what they need to live happy and fulfilling lives. A truly circular economy, where resources are made to be used again and again and, ultimately, there is no waste. Governments, councils, businesses and communities have an opportunity to build a more resourceful New Zealand. As a country we can show leadership, and invest in innovation, by working together to develop a more resourceful approach for providing for our wants and needs.
